In every condition that involves a body part that is either a muscle/tendon, ligament or any of the connective tissues, paddings, sheaths or capsules...there is an element of either contraction or expansion. Quite simply, these soft tissues do not respond well to change and one of the first signs of this will be pain.
Take exercise induced injury as an example: The somewhat satisfying muscle pain the day after a good workout session...just to let you know that you actually accomplished something, all the way through the excruciating and instantly immobilizing pain of a torn knee cartilage.
